A Bed for Every Taste

A Bed for Every Taste

Given that we spend nearly a third of our lives in bed, it makes sense to choose beds based on comfort. For that other two thirds, our beds should be stylish and well designed in order to create the most harmonious, inviting bedroom possible.

Jessica McClintock Home Sleigh Bed

Platform Beds
So named because they require no box springs and the mattress sits on a platform of hardwood slats, platform beds feature a low profile and sleek lines that coordinate well with modern decor.

Sleigh Beds
A traditionally styled bed, sleigh beds are immediately recognizable by their gently scrolling head and footboards.

Daybeds
Bringing casual elegance to guest rooms and smaller bedrooms, daybeds can be made of wood or metal and are available in many different styles designed to match both traditional and contemporary decor.

Bunk and Loft Beds
An enduring symbol of childhood, bunk beds free up floor space in a room that two children share. Often made of wood or metal and painted in bright, fun colors, bunk beds can be separated into two beds as children grow. Loft beds often feature a desk or workspace under the elevated bed.

Poster and Canopy Beds
Similar in design, both poster beds and canopy beds feature tall posts at each corner. Depending on the design style, these posts may be ornately carved or simple and sleek. Canopy beds feature a sheer gossamer cover over these four posts, a design that was functional in the past but is now used only as decoration.

Cribs and Toddler Beds
After your child has grown out of his or her crib, a toddler bed can serve as a safe transition to a regular bed. Built low to the ground and featuring side rails to duplicate the safety and security of a crib, toddler beds are available in a variety of styles and designs.

Trundle and Captains Beds.
These styles of beds both feature large storage drawers on the side under the mattress. Captains beds usually have multiple drawers that are handy for storing clothes or extra bedding while trundle beds have one wide drawer that is most often used to keep an extra mattress that can be pulled out when an extra sleeping space is needed.
